First published as a poet, Catherine Bateson has twice won the CBCA Book of the Year for Younger Readers, and been awarded the Queensland Premier's Award, Younger Readers. She's written more than a dozen novels for young adults and younger readers.
Catherine grew up in a family of writers and spent most of her childhood in Brisbane where her mother owned a second-hand bookshop. She continues to spend her life surrounded by books and loves nothing more than to talk about writing and reading. She is also quite passionate about making things and sews many of her own clothes, spins yarn and knits socks. In another life she believes she would have been a textile artist.
One of the highlights of her writing life was being able to spend three months in Paris, having received a residential fellowship from the Australia Council. she listened to some great writers at the bookshop, Shakespeare and Company, saw wonderful art and wrote and wrote. What joy!
